Akpe Victory Completes FC Basel Transfer as Swiss Giants Secure Nigerian Wonderkid Until 2030
Swiss football giants FC Basel 1893 have officially secured the signature of highly-rated Nigerian central defender Akpe Victory.
The 19-year-old defender transitions from Hungarian first division outfit Zalaegerszegi TE FC to the Rhine Bend, committing his long-term future to FCB with a contract that runs until the summer of 2030.

Standing at an imposing 1.95 meters, the young wonderkid is set to don the number 55 jersey for his new club.
Victory’s rise in European football has been nothing short of an impressive one. He first made the leap to Europe in spring 2025, joining Lithuanian first division side FK Banga Gargzdai.
He wasted no time to seal his place in the squad, racking up 32 competitive appearances and earning his first taste of continental football during the UEFA Conference League qualifiers.
By the start of this year, his rapid development earned him a move to Hungary’s Zalaegerszegi.
Following a brief adaptation phase, the Nigerian starlet became an indispensable fixture in their backline.
He featured in 16 out of 19 possible matches and played every single minute of the grueling 120-minute Hungarian Cup final, where his team narrowly missed out on the trophy after conceding a heartbreaking goal in extra time.
Despite intense transfer interest from multiple suitors across Europe, Victory chose Basel as the perfect destination for the next chapter of his career.
Following his arrival to the club, Akpe Victory said:
“I am very happy to have signed with FCB. Now I would like to settle in quickly and focus fully on the coming season. I will give everything for this great club and would like to win as much as possible, preferably trophies. I’m the type of player who looks at every match like a final –I prepare for it accordingly and fight for every ball in the game.”

The club’s Technical Director, Andreas Herrmann, expressed confidence in Akpe’s qualities following his arrival, highlighting the defender’s physicality, defensive awareness, and long-term potential.
Herrmann described Akpe as a commanding centre-back who combines strength in tackles, aerial dominance, and impressive pace, qualities he believes will add depth to the team’s defensive unit.
He also noted that the defender’s proactive approach and willingness to engage opponents aggressively will enable the side to maintain a higher defensive line, while emphasizing that Akpe possesses significant room for further development.
“FCB warmly welcomes you to Basel, Akpe, and wishes you a good arrival and a successful start,” the club wrote.
