Corps Member Makes History, Delivers Borehole Project in Bere Community, Khana LGA

A National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) member, Obot Lukpata, serving in Bere community in Khana Local Government Area in Rivers State, has caught the attention of the Khana Local Government Authority for singlehandedly sponsoring and completing a borehole water installation in the community.

The extraordinary corps member was handed the commendation of the Local Government Chairman, Thomas Bariere, through a representative, the Khana LG APC Chairman, Barile Ebenezer, at the commissioning of the project on Saturday, july 4, 2026.

The water project, which is executed to provide clean and safe drinking water for Bere community, was described by the the Local Government Council Chairman as a remarkable demonstration of selfless service and community development initiative.

He further noted that the borehole project reflects the core objectives of the NYSC Community Development Service (CDS) programme, reaffirming his administration’s commitment to supporting impactful initiatives that improve the quality of life of people across Khana Local Government Area.

In his remarks, the corps member, Obot Lukpata, stated that the project was conceived to address the long-standing challenge of inadequate access to potable water in Bere Community.

With a tone of humility and polite acceptance of the encomiums pouted on him, he explained that the initiative was carried out as part of his NYSC Community Development Service, aimed at making a meaningful and lasting impact on the lives of residents.

His appreciation was generously extended to the Khana Local Government Council, the National Youth Service Corps, traditional rulers, community leaders, as well as members of the community for their encouragement and support, which contributed to the successful completion of the project.

Meanwhle, Residents have described the borehole as a timely intervention, expressing optimism that it would significantly improve access to clean water and reduce the challenges associated with sourcing drinking water in the community.

The project stands as an enviable example of the positive impact of the NYSC Community Development Service programme in addressing critical community needs and promoting sustainable grassroots development.
