Rivers SUBEB Trains 1,000 New Teachers to Boost Basic Education
The Rivers State Universal Basic Education Board (RSUBEB) has concluded a two-day orientation programme for 1,000 newly recruited teachers as part of efforts to improve the quality of basic education in the state.
The orientation, held from Thursday May 7 to Friday May 8, 2026, at the White Jade Event Centre in Port Harcourt, focused on equipping the teachers with the necessary knowledge of policies, ethics, and teaching standards required in the state’s school system.

Addressing the participants, the Chairman of RSUBEB, Samuel Ogeh, urged the teachers to justify their selection by demonstrating diligence, discipline, and commitment in their respective assignments.
He warned against the rejection of postings and unnecessary lobbying for transfers, stressing that such actions would not be tolerated.

Ogeh also commended Governor Siminalayi Fubara for sustaining the recruitment process and approving the engagement of an additional 5,000 teachers to address manpower shortages, acknowledging former Governor Nyesom Wike for initiating the teacher recruitment programme.

In a keynote lecture, former RSUBEB Chairman, Fyneface Akah, described teaching as a vocation that requires dedication, empathy, creativity, resilience, and digital competence, encouraging the new teachers to serve as agents of positive change in their classrooms.
Similarly, the State Commissioner for Education, Peters Nwagor, charged the teachers to uphold professionalism, punctuality, and accountability in the discharge of their duties.
The training covered key areas including lesson planning, child protection, school regulations, stakeholder engagement, administrative procedures, public service rules, financial management, and the ethical use of digital platforms.

The newly recruited teachers expressed appreciation to the board for the opportunity and pledged to contribute meaningfully to the development of basic education in Rivers State.

This is typical continuity of the former and present administrations to boost Education in Rivers State. Kudos to Barr. E. N Wike (FCT Minister) / Ven. Dr. Fynface Akah and Sir Sim. Fubara / Barr. Sam Ogeh.
The coordinator of the program Barr. KT George put together experienced resource persons who prepared the teachers for their duty as key stakeholder out there in the communities.
No doubt, this will surely boost Education in the state. Good job! Weldone! CONGRATULATIONS!
