The Nigerian forward played a key role in a result that strengthens the club’s position in the La Liga survival race.
Umar Sadiq Valencia impact seals crucial La Liga win
Valencia entered the Round 34 clash under pressure, but they showed resilience to overcome Girona in front of their home fans. After a goalless first half filled with tension, the breakthrough came shortly after the restart.
Largie Ramazani opened the scoring with a fine solo effort, finishing off a well-timed diagonal pass from Javi Guerra. The momentum shifted firmly in Valencia’s favour, and Umar Sadiq soon made it count.
The 29-year-old striker rose highest to meet José Gayà’s pinpoint cross, heading home Valencia’s second goal just before the hour mark. It was a composed finish that highlighted his growing influence in the team.
Sadiq’s goal marked his third in La Liga this season and ensured he has now scored in consecutive matches, following his earlier strike against Mallorca.
His recent form has been encouraging, with three goal involvements—two goals and one assist—in his last four appearances.
Sadiq Valencia form lifts survival hopes
Despite a physical contest that saw him lose several duels, Umar Sadiq’s overall contribution remained vital.

Across all competitions this season, he has now recorded seven goal involvements, including efforts in both La Liga and the Copa del Rey.
Girona responded quickly after making changes, with substitutes Alejandro Francés and Joel Roca combining to reduce the deficit. Roca’s close-range finish set up a tense final phase as the visitors pushed for an equaliser.
However, Valencia held firm. Goalkeeper Stole Dimitrievski produced a crucial late save to deny Cristhian Stuani, preserving a win that could prove decisive in the survival battle.
The victory gives Valencia a valuable five-point cushion above the relegation zone heading into the final stretch of the season.
For Girona, the defeat leaves them in a more uncertain position, with the threat of slipping closer to danger depending on other results.
