Rivers United star Wisdom Samuel Breaks Silence After Scoring Against Bendel Insurance
Rivers United continued their dominant run in the Nigeria Premier Football League (NPFL) with a decisive 3–1 victory over Bendel Insurance.

The match, held at the Adokiye Amiesimaka Stadium on matchday 29, helped the Pride of Rivers to maintain their spot at the top of the table.
Wisdom Samuel Shines in Rivers United’s Victory
Among the standout performers was Wisdom Samuel, who has found a rich vein of form at a crucial point in the season.
After a goalless first half, the home side turned up the heat, with Samuel doubling the lead in the 81st minute following an opener by Chijioke Mbaoma and a late winner from Samson Obi.
The forward’s goal against Bendel Insurance marks a significant personal achievement, bringing his tally to three goals in just two matches.
Speaking after the final whistle, the winger couldn’t hide his delight regarding his current streak and the team’s performance.
“I feel excited, actually. I’m very excited. Today’s game was very important, just like our last game. So we had to get the maximum point. I’m glad we scored. I’m very, very happy that we won today.”
When asked if he anticipated finding the back of the net again following his brace against El Kanemi Warriors, Samuel admitted he had entered the pitch with a goal-scoring mindset.
“I was hoping I’d score. I wanted to score, so I’m really happy I could score.”
Impact of Wisdom Samuel’s Goals on NPFL Title Race
The resurgence of the forward has been a major talking point for fans in Port Harcourt.
Reflecting on his journey from the previous season, Samuel noted the importance of scoring goals to gain recognition in the highly competitive Nigeria Premier Football League.

“Very, very important. I played throughout last season; I didn’t score, but I got assists. You know, in this league, if you don’t score, people don’t see you. So yeah, I’m happy I scored.”
His recent performances have certainly caught the eye of the technical crew. On the topic of regaining the manager’s trust, he simply stated,
“That’s what I’m expecting.”
However, he remains humble regarding his spot in the starting eleven for the upcoming away fixtures against Shooting Stars and Ikorodu City.
“It’s totally dependent on the coach’s decision – anything he says.”
Despite the challenges ahead, Samuel remains incredibly confident that Rivers United has what it takes to stay at the summit and finish the season as champions.
When asked if the team would clinch the title, he replied:
“Yeah, I’m very sure.”
