“I’ve something big” — Rivers United star Iyowuna Douglas claims after two assists vs Bendel Insurance
Rivers United maintained their dominance at the top of the Nigeria Premier Football League (NPFL) with a commanding 3-1 victory over Bendel Insurance.

In a thrilling South-South derby at the Adokiye Amiesimaka Stadium, the Pride of Rivers proved too strong for their rivals.
Iyowuna Douglas Claims “I’ve Something Big” After Masterclass
While several players found the net, the spotlight belonged to midfield sensation Iyowuna Douglas, whose playmaking brilliance dismantled the visitors’ defence.
Making only his third appearance for the club, Douglas was the architect of the win, providing two vital assists.
After a tense, goalless first half, Douglas broke the game open in the 53rd minute with a perfectly placed corner kick that found Chijioke Mbaoma, who headed home the opener.
Speaking with Kristina Reports after the final whistle, the midfielder was quick to express his gratitude to God, saying that God made it possible for him to see the day and that without being alive, he would not be at the stadium at the moment.
Reflecting on his breakthrough performance, he stated:
“I also want to thank my coaches for giving me this opportunity. It’s football. I know I have something big, and I decided to just show it and bring it out, and the performance, it just happened because what’s in you is in you.”
United Star Douglas Delivers Double Assist Performance
Douglas doubled his tally in the 81st minute, setting up Wisdom Samuel to make it 2-0.
Although Bendel Insurance pulled a goal back in the 89th minute, super-sub Samson Obi reacted quickest to a rebound just sixty seconds later to seal the 3-1 win.

Douglas admitted he walked onto the pitch with a sense of destiny.
“Yeah, I had the conviction in mind before coming into the game that I would get either a goal or an assist, and it came out that way. And it happens to be double. I give God all the glory.”
This performance follows high praise from manager Finidi George after the team’s previous win over El Kanemi Warriors.
With two consecutive 3-goal victories at home, Rivers United now look ahead to a tough run of four away fixtures, starting with Shooting Stars.
