FG Vows Swift Investigation into the Death of Arise TV Anchor Somtochukwu Maduagwu
The Federal Government of Nigeria has vowed a swift investigation into the death of Somtochukwu Christelle Maduagwu, a 29-year-old lawyer, model, and Arise TV news anchor, who was tragically killed during an armed robbery at her residence in Katampe, Abuja.
Somtochukwu, fondly known as Sommie, reportedly lost her life on September 29, 2025, following the attack.

Her death has sparked widespread outrage across the country, raising concerns over security lapses and systemic failures.
In a condolence letter, the Minister of Information and National Orientation, Mohammed Idris, described her passing as a “grievous loss” and assured that a thorough investigation would be conducted to determine the circumstances surrounding the incident.
President Bola Ahmed Tinubu also expressed deep regret over her untimely death.
The Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Police Command has taken immediate steps to investigate the matter.
Commissioner of Police Ajao Adewale directed tactical teams, including the Special Anti-Robbery Squad and the Special Intelligence Unit, to lead the investigation and bring those responsible to justice.
Somtochukwu’s colleagues at Arise TV have raised concerns over alleged hospital negligence.
Reports suggest that she was denied treatment at a hospital due to a lack of identification documents, which may have contributed to her passing.
Condolences have poured in from various quarters, including former Vice President Atiku Abubakar, Labour Party presidential candidate Peter Obi, and Enugu State Governor Peter Mbah, all calling for justice and an expedited investigation into the incident.
Somtochukwu is remembered as a vibrant and dedicated journalist whose contributions significantly impacted the media industry.
Her sudden death has left a profound void in the lives of her family, colleagues, and the broader Nigerian public.
