Police Foil Robbery Attempt in Abuja’s Apo Resettlement, One Suspect Killed

An attempted robbery in the Zone E Extension of Apo Resettlement, Abuja, ended in chaos late Monday night after police officers responded to the scene, resulting in a deadly shootout.

According to the spokesperson for the the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Police Command, Josephine Adeh, the incident occurred around 10:30 p.m. following a distress call from a commercial motorcyclist alerting the police to heavy gunfire in the area.

“The Divisional Police Officer of Apo Division immediately mobilized his Ambush and Surveillance Teams to the scene,” Adeh said in an official statement.

“The attackers engaged the police team in a fierce gun battle. In a swift tactical response, a reinforcement team led by the Deputy Commissioner of Police in charge of Operations arrived at the scene.

“The operatives responded with superior firepower, forcing the assailants to flee into the surrounding hills.”

Three individuals were caught in the crossfire and sustained varying degrees of injuries. They were promptly taken to a nearby hospital for treatment. One of them, however, was later pronounced dead, and the body has since been deposited in the hospital morgue.

During the operation, the police recovered a light green Toyota Corolla with the registration number GWA 620 AU, which was said to belong to one of the victims.

In the aftermath, security agencies have launched a coordinated manhunt involving police operatives and local vigilante groups in a bid to track down the fleeing suspects.

The FCT Police Command has reiterated its commitment to ensuring the safety of residents and urged the public to remain vigilant and report any suspicious activity.
