An indegene of Okrika Local Government Area, Blessing Igbikowubo, has called on Councillors and Community Development Committee (CDC) members to take responsibility for their communities’ development instead of relying solely on the Chairman of the LGA.
Speaking to Kristina Reports via an online interview on Tuesday, February 24, Igbikiowubo emphasized that local leaders should address minor community issues, rather than shifting all burdens to the government.

“You see, these are things the CDC and the councillor representing that ward can handle. We must not push everything to the government. How much would it cost to repair the sumo or purchase a new one?”
Having served as a CDC secretary for seven years, Blessing stated that neglecting responsibilities would only harm the communities themselves.
His comments followed a story by Kristina Reports about a government-provided borehole that had fallen into disrepair.

“That borehole was provided by the government. It is the duty of the community to manage, maintain, and protect it from theft and damage.”
He urged residents to hold their councillors and CDC members accountable instead of blaming the local government for issues caused by negligence.
“They should channel their grievances towards the CDC, not the government. After they damaged the sumo out of carelessness, they should go and meet their councillor”.
Igbikiowubo’s remarks highlight the need for active community leadership and shared responsibility in local governance.
