Gentlemen’s League Calls on FG to Establish Federal Medical Centre in Bonny

A frontline socio-cultural organization comprising distinguished Bonny indigenes, the Bonny Gentlemen’s League has called on the Federal Government to expedite action on the immediate establishment of a Federal Medical Centre (FMC) in Bonny, Rivers State.

The League made this call via a communique it issued after its 45th Convention and 3rd Annual General Meeting (AGM) held on Sunday, December 22, 2024s, signed by its Chancellor, Kalada Green, Registrar, Victor Jumbo, and Chairman of its Current and National Affairs Committee, Torudoghubo Jamaica.

The League is made up of distinguished gentlemen of Bonny extraction from diverse professions and vocations, who have the interest and development of the Bonny Local Government Area at heart.

It drew the attention of the President, Bola Tinubu to a bill for the establishment of a Federal Medical Center (FMC) in Bonny, which was presented by the erstwhile lawmaker who was representing Degema/Bonny Federal Constituency in the House of Representatives between 2019 and 2023, Farah Dagogo.

The League noted that the bill was passed but not signed into law by the then President, Muhammadu Buhari, in 2023.

It also called on the present representative of the Degema/Bonny Federal Constituency in the National Assembly, Cyril Hart, to follow up on the FMB Bill with a view to ensuring that both presidential assent and inclusion in the national budget are secured.

The League also requested the Chairman of Bonny Local Government Area, Anengi Claude-Wilcox, to proactively work with the Bonny Traditional Institution to map out a designated area as proposed site for the Federal Medical Center, Bonny.
