In what was an exciting and pulsating tie, with bragging rights and South-South derby glory up for grabs, Rivers Angels shared the spoils with rivals, Bayelsa Queens on Wednesday, February 12, 2025, at the Adokiye Amiesimaka Stadium in Matchday five of the Nigeria Women’s Football League.
Rivers Angels drew first blood taking the lead in the 10th minute of action via a fine cross from Polinus Ifeoma. Not long after, the Jewels of Rivers suffered a blow as Tejiri Edward got stretched out injured and had to be replaced by Chidera Okenwa.

Four minutes after the forced substitution, Zainab Olapade scored for Bayelsa Queens, doubling the host’s woes to give the visitors an all-important leveller, which saw the tie ended 1-1 going into the break.
In the second half, the Home side, Rivers Angels, had an opportunity to regain their lead in the 52nd minute after a penalty was awarded to them for Jennifer Oliver’s foul on Mary Moses, but that chance went down the drain as Bayelsa Queens Goalkeeper redeemed her teammate by saving Aminat Folorunsho’s spot kick.

The visitors held their own until the blast of the final whistle and will return to Bayelsa with a valuable point on the road. This encounter ended in the same fashion as their previous encounter at the 2023/24 Super Six Playoffs which also ended 1-1, but in Yenagoa.
