The Nigeria Police Force has unsealed the 23 Local Government Council Secretariats in Rivers State on the orders of the Inspector General of Police, Dr Kayode Egbetokun.
Public Relations Officer of the Rivers State Police Command, Grace Iringe-Koko disclosed this via a press release on Monday, October 7, 2024 in Port Harcourt, Rivers State.
According to her, the newly redeployed Commissioner of Police in Rivers State, Bala Mustapha ordered the unsealing of all the Local Government Secretariats in the State in line with the directiveofthe Inspector General of Police, Dr Kayode Egbetokun.
Iringe-Koko stated that all Police personnel attached to various Local Government Secretariats have been ordered to withdraw from the secretariats immediately.
“This decision is in line with the commitment of the Nigerian Police Force to ensure neutrality and the smooth functioning of democratic institutions.”
This is coming barely 48 hours after the just concluded local council elections.
It could be recalled that the all Local Government Secretariats in the state were sealed by the Nigerian Police Force amidst the controversial political crisis in the State.
The Rivers State Police Commissioner informed that police personnel will only be redeployed to those locations in the event of any crisis or breakdown of law and order, in which case emergency measures will be swiftly implemented to restore normalcy.
The Police Commissioner also hereby urged the general public and stakeholders to remain calm and law abiding as the situation continues to evolve.
