Lone Goal seals Divine FC’s win in King and Chairman’s Cup Tourney

After trading of hard tackles and brilliant display of skills by both teams in the opening match of the King and Chairman’s Cup (KCC) Tournament, Divine FC snatched a lone goal victory from their opponents, Adventurers FC.

Playing before a mammoth crowd that besieged the Government School, Bonny football pitch to witness the opening match both teams held each other to almost a goalless draw by half-time.

The 41st minute goal from Divine FC’s Sunny Okezie changed the pace of the game as Adventurers FC were forced into half-time trailing behind as their frantic efforts to balance the odds proved abortive.

The tension-soaked match eventually came to an end to the delight of the Soparagh Jumbo led Divine FC who ensured their opponents’ deft and desperate moves to equalise came to nothing.

Chief host of the tournament and Executive Chairman of Bonny LGA, David Irimagha had told Kristina Reports that it was aimed at providing a convergence point for youths of the LGA, discovering of talents and avenue for recreation, ex
pressing the hope that it would be sustained as an annual event.

Addressing the crowd, the Supervisor for Youths and Sports, Bonny Local Government Council, Hamilton Bob-Hart said “football is a unifying sport which addresses the social and economic challenges and promotes global public health”.

He added that consequently, the David Irimagha led administration in Bonny LGA has “designed sports based initiatives for the people”.

He used the opportunity to express his appreciation to the Amanyanabo of Bonny Kingdom, His Majesty, King Edward Asimini William Dappa Pepple III, Perekule XI, and the Executive Chairman of Bonny LGA, David Irimagha for their consistent passion towards the sustenance of sporting activities for youths in Bonny.

The game featured live commentary by popular sports journalist, Sammy Wejinya, and Bright Hart.

Dignitaries that witnessed the match include the lawmaker representing Bonny constituency in the State House of Assembly, Abinye Pepple, representative of the Amanyanabo of Bonny Kingdom and Secretary of the Perekule Palace, Chief Abel Attoni, Secretary of the Bonny Chiefs Council, Chief Arthur Willie-Pepple, a former Caretaker Committee Chairman of Bonny LGA, Charles Jumbo, and Vice Chairman, Bonny LGA, Anengi Barasua, amongst others.
