Nollywood actor Williams Uchemba has recently sparked a conversation on social media, addressing what he perceives as a growing issue among women in Nigeria.

The actor attributed the singleness of many women to their unrealistic material demands from men expectations they themselves cannot fulfill.

Speaking via his social media page, Uchemba expressed his concern over the mentality that he believes is “crippling most women in this generation.”

He highlighted that many women are single because they keep requesting luxury items, such as the latest iPhone 15, even though they cannot afford something as basic as an iPhone 10.

“There is a mentality that is crippling most women in this generation. When you say there is no husband, this is the reason why,” Uchemba stated.

He further questioned the rationale behind such demands, asking, “Why are you asking for a GWagon or iPhone 15 when you know that you cannot even afford iPhone 10 with how much you have in your account?”

Uchemba condemned this behavior, describing it as a “pandemic” that has taken root in Nigeria. He warned that this “spirit of greed” could have serious consequences for those who harbor it.

“It has so many things to do with some element of ‘Jezebelian spirit’ and until you deal with it, no man will put you in his house.”

His words have generated widespread reactions among fans and social media users, with many engaging in debates over the validity of his claims.

Williams Uchemba’s comments reflect a broader societal conversation about the expectations and pressures within relationships in modern-day Nigeria.

The actor’s outspoken views continue to resonate with many, bringing attention to the evolving dynamics of gender and materialism in the country.

In the context of the Nigerian entertainment industry, often referred to as Nollywood—a term whose origin dates back to the early 2000s—such discussions reflect the complex intersection of cultural, economic, and social issues portrayed in Nigerian cinema.

Nollywood itself has grown into a significant cultural force, representing various regional and ethnic perspectives within the nation’s diverse landscape.

The ongoing dialogue, as triggered by Uchemba’s remarks, underscores the broader challenges and realities facing relationships in contemporary Nigeria.
