A security expert, Squadron Leader Olam Allwell-Brown (rtd.) has charged the Nigerian Navy to scale up security on the waterways in the State especially on the Bonny River.

In a chat with Kristina Report in Port Harcourt, he stated that the persistent, increasing and nefarious activities of sea pirates on the Port Harcourt/Bonny sea route was becoming unbearable.

Allwell-Brown, who is also an Amaopusenibo of Grand Bonny Kingdom, noted that the Bonny-Port Harcourt waterways has been recording a high rate of sea pirate attacks that should not be ignored.

Already, relevant stakeholders, including a former Chairman of the Rivers State Council of Traditional Rulers, His Majesty, King Edward William Dappa Pepple III, CON, Perekule XI, Chairman of Bonny Local Government Area, David Irimagha, the Bonny Kingdom Security Committee, and the security agencies, have been working round the clock to stem the horrible spate of sea pirate attacks on the Bonny River.

The Bonny River, which is a critical component in the Gulf of Guinea Corridor has recently been witnessing an unprecedented spate of sea pirates’ attacks that has negatively impacted economic activities in the area.

King Pepple III, who is also the Amanyanabo of Bonny Kingdom in Bonny Local Government Area of Rivers State and former Pro-Chancellor of the Niger Delta University has been working in concert with relevant stakeholders to checkmate the activities of these daredevil sea pirates.

The revered monarch expressed worry that his subjects had been subjected to the terrifying experience of dealing with these hoodlums who have made the sea route to Port Harcourt a horrifying experience and charged the security agencies to do more to return sanity to the waterways.

In his words, Allwell-Brown, a retired Air Force officer, said “The people of Grand Bonny Kingdom are appealing to the Nigerian Navy to heighten security on the Bonny-Port Harcourt waterways so as to tackle the activities of piracy against sea travelers and transporters”.

He commended the Nigerian Navy for their successful operations against kpo fire operators in the community, noting that the illegal trade has drastically reduced.
