The Inter-Party Advisory Council (IPAC) in Rivers State has commended Governor Siminalayi Fubara for directing the conduct of local government elections for the 23 local government councils of Rivers State describing it as a significant step towards deepening democratic governance in Rivers State.
This position was communicated via a press release signed by Ameyeofori Ibim, Chief press secretary to the Rivers State chairman of IPAC, Solsuema Osaro.
The IPAC chairman, Solsuema Osaro whilst commending the governor noted that the release of timetable and conduct of LGA elections barely 3 months into the inauguration of caretaker committees is a testament to the governor’s commitment to democracy.
“We commend governor Siminalayi Fubara in his commitment to democracy as evident in the release of timetable for the local government elections…”
“This is a significant step towards deepening democratic governance in Rivers State and we assure the government of our cooperation and support for peaceful and credible elections…”
Osaro who also commended the chairman of the Rivers State Independent Electoral Commission RSIEC for prompt issuance of electoral timetable assured the commission of the preparedness of political parties in Rivers State to have smooth and peaceful election even as he urged officers of the Nigeria police to be professional in their conduct during the elections.
“IPAC assures that political parties are prepared for a smooth and peaceful conduct of elections urging the Nigeria police to maintain absolute neutrality and uphold the principles of their rules of engagement as enshrined in the 1999 constitution…”
Recall that the Rivers State Independent Electoral Commission RSIEC had recently released the guidelines and timetable for the conduct of elections across the 23 LGAs in Rivers State. This move according to pundits is reflective of the prevailing yearnings of Rivers People.
