Indigenes of Ebubu Community in Eleme Local Government Area of Rivers State have cried out over the abysmal learning conditions at the Community Secondary School, Ebubu, Eleme.
In a chat with Kristina Reports, the Paramount Ruler of Egbalor Community and ancient Ebubu Kingdom, His Royal Highness, King Godwin Chinwi, Oneh-Eh Eta Ebubu XIV, described the current condition of the school as unfit to raise leaders of tomorrow.
The Ebubu Kingdom Traditional Ruler appealed to the Rivers State Government to deploy an assessment team to the school to assess the deplorable academic conditions there.
He further called on the State Governor, Siminalayi Fubara, to build a fence round the school to prevent hoodlums from invading the school premises at will.
On his part, the Paramount Ruler of Agbeta Community in Ebubu, Eleme LGA, High Chief Ambrose Yaya regretted that several appeals have been made to previous administrations of the Rivers State Government as well as the Niger Delta Development Commission (NDDC) but none was attended to.
He said lack of fence around the school has exposed the students and teachers to harassment and attacks by hoodlums even as learning conditions have become dismal especially during rainy seasons due to the dilapidated conditions of the classrooms.
On her part, Senior Prefect of Community Secondary School (CSS), Ebubu, Osilaka Glory made reference to some incidents at the school when hoodlums attempted to rape the female students during recreational activities.
This, she said was possible because of lack of a perimeter fence around the school, appealing to the wife of the Governor, Valerie Fubara to persuade her husband, Governor Siminalayi Fubara to come to the aid of the students, being a mother herself.
During an on-the-spot assessment visit to the premises of Community Secondary School, Ebubu, Eleme LGA, Kristina Reports team observed that the school had no equipped classrooms or laboratories even as some sections of the roof had fallen of, with the compound overgrown with grass thus exposing the students to the menace of reptiles.
Apparently, Community Secondary School (CSS), Ebubu, Eleme LGA is another testament to the clear anti-Education posture of the Nyesom Wike led administration in Rivers State, and a clarion call to urgent action on the incumbent Governor, Siminalayi Fubara to rush to the rescue.
Not only did the ex-Governor and now Minister of the FCT abandon the Education sector in the State, he even gave out the Nne Kurubo Model Secondary, Ebubu in Eleme LGA to the Nigerian Navy to use as headquarters of its Training Command.
Across the State are littered with several schools in the appalling condition of CSS Ebubu due to the irresponsible posture of the previous administration.
Expectations are high across Ebubu Land that Governor Siminalayi Fubara will toe a different part by ordering urgent intervention at the school, as well as others across the State.
