Golden Eaglets Coach, Manu Garba has expressed his pride in his boy’s performance following their goalless draw against Burkina Faso in the Group B opener of the WAFU B U17 Championship on Thursday, May 16, 2024.
Despite creating numerous scoring opportunities, particularly in the latter stages of the game at the Accra University Stadium, the five-time champions failed to capitalize on any of them, missing out on the chance to take the lead in the group.
However, Garba was impressed with the team’s cohesive display in their first international outing and praised their sportsmanship.
“We’re proud of our team’s performance. Although we didn’t secure the win we hoped for, our players demonstrated great teamwork and sportsmanship. We’re looking forward to our next match and the opportunity to continue growing and improving. The boys will get better with experience and exposure.”
The Eaglets showcased their skills, flair and fluency against the Burkinabes, but a heavy downpour in the final 15 minutes thwarted the flow of play, making effective control and passing impossible due to the waterlogged pitch.
The Golden Eaglets will face their Niger Republic counterparts on Sunday, May 19, 2024, by 7 pm with renewed hope and vigour, seeking to secure three points that will enhance their chances of reaching the semifinals.
