In a congratulatory message to workers in commemoration of this year’s May Day celebration, Chief Essien commended the contributions of workers to the development of the economy of nations including Nigeria.

Chief Essien, who was until December 2023 the Corporate Health, Safety and Environment Manager at the Nigeria Liquefied Natural Gas Limited (NLNG), applauded workers responsible for keeping the environment healthy, safe and habitable, noting that their sacrificial efforts remain noble and worthy of commendation.

He asserted that, WAMASON, as an NGO, will sustain its efforts at creating the necessary awareness on proper waste management through campaigns and advocacy, positing that the Society would also continue to influence different levels of government through the Ministries of Environment and the agencies and parastatals under them to formulate enabling policies and regulations to encourage proper wastes management.

He described the theme of year 2024 Workers’ Day celebration, which is “Ensuring Safety and Health at Work in a changing Climate”, “as apt”, calling on workers to take their health and wellbeing seriously by taking time off to rest, eat good food, share quality time with their families, and remain affable at work.

He noted that prioritizing the cleanliness of their homes and workplaces was a critical component in the quest at living a good life and progressing in one’s career.
