The Ukwa Branch of the Nigerian Bar Association (NBA) has congratulated Abia State Governor, Alex Otti on the affirmation of his victory at the governorship election by the Supreme Court.
Chairman of NBA Ukwa Branch, Chinonso Nwosu came out with this on Wednesday January 18, 2024 in a statement he personally signed and made exclusively available to Kristina Reports in Port Harcourt, Rivers State.
He said that members of the NBA Ukwa Branch were delighted that the affirmation of Otti’s mandate as the winner of the Saturday, March 18, 2023 gubernatorial elections in Abia State is final and no more subject to further litigation.
“It is basic that decisions and pronouncement from the apex court of Nigeria is final. It is final not just because the law resides in the bosom of the court but it is the final place of appeal.”
He expressed optimism that the judgment would serve as a harbinger of democratic dividends to the people of Abia State, and engender a better society among Abians.
“When law rules, society becomes ideal, habitable, productive and develops for the benefits of all.”
The NBA Chairman also urged Ndi Ukwa to work align with the vision of the Abia state Governor to bring about meaningful development, especially, at the grassroots level.
While congratulating the State Governor, Nwosu urged him to be magnanimous in victory and embrace members of the opposition and persuade them to key into his vision of developing Abia State.
He asserted that “this victory is for the entire Abia State, and as such, it is expected that the benefits resonate even to Abians in the grassroots. Once again, Congratulations, Your Excellency for a victory well deserved”.
Alex Otti, a former managing Director of Access Bank, contested and won the Abia gubernatorial election on the platform of the Labour Party.
But litigations challenging his victory at the polls have run from the tribunal to the Apeal Court and then to the Supreme Court.
With the Supreme Court’s verdict, all seems set for the technocrat turned politician to now focus on his developmental plans for Abia State.
