Alleged Murder of Bouncer: LG Chairman Calls for Calm, Orders Investigation

Amidst the furore generated by the alleged murder of a bouncer at a club in the early hours of Monday, the Chairman of Bonny Local Government Area of Rivers State, Dame Anengi Claude-Wilcox has called for calm, saying she has ordered a full scale investigation into the matter.

A statement by her Press Secretary, Boma Waribor on Monday, December 11, 2023 in Bonny, Rivers State stated that Dame Claude-Wilcox was saddened by the unfortunate death of the bouncer identified as Kingsley Abbey.

The incident, which happened at Tina’s Bar, located along General Kurubo Bypass, popularly known as Mosque Road, later spread to the King Perekule Road in front of First Bank.

“The Executive Chairman of Bonny Local Government, Dame Hon. Anengi Barasua Claude-Wilcox, DSSRS, JP., has been briefed of a murder incident of a club bouncer by a personnel of a government security agency, who was said to have been restricted from gaining access into the club facility with arms which later snowballed into the murder of the bouncer by the security personnel.”

“In the circumstance, the Bonny Local Government Council Chairman has authorised a full scale investigation into the incident in collaboration with government security agencies with a view to ensure that the suspect faces the full wrath of the law and justice is served.”

She commended the first respondents who took the injured bouncer to a clinic for emergency medical treatment before he was pronounced dead, and commiserated with family and friends of the deceased, assuring that no stone would be unturned in finding and prosecuting the perpetrators of this dastardly act.

“The Executive Chairman as well thanked those who tried to save the life of the victim by rushing him to Clinic where he was pronounced dead.”

“Accordingly, the immediate family, friends, colleagues of the deceased and the general public are enjoined to remain calm as no stone would be left unturned in pursuit of the details and prosecution of the culpable offenders.”

Earlier in the day, the Leader of the Bonny Youth Federation (BYF), Anthony Banigo had also called for calm, assuring that investigation into the matter was ongoing and the culprit would be brought to book.

A statement by the BYF Director of Publicity, Tonye Willie-Pepple, said the Bonny Kingdom Youth Leader called on youths of the area to remain law abiding and recuse themselves from taking laws into their hands, assuring the Federation was in touch with the relevant security agencies to ensure justice is done.
