The Bonny Kingdom Development Committee (BKDC) says compensations for property owners on the right of way of the Shell Road, Mission Road and King William Dappa Pepple Road will not be paid in December 2023.
This was contained in a statement signed by the Secretary of the BKDC, Daddy Dappa, PhD, and made exclusively available to Kristina Reports on Sunday, December 3, 2023 in Bonny, Rivers State.
The Committee said it would meet with owners and caretakers of enumerated and impacted structures on Thursday, December 7, 2023 at the Women’s Hall, Bonny to discuss issues related to the proposed road expansion which is about to commence.
In a telephone chat with Kristina Reports, Dr Dappa said it had become necessary to correct erroneous notions being spread that compensations would be paid in December 2023 for a project which proper enumeration and identification of property owners and caretakers was yet to be done.
“Our attention has been drawn to a fake information being spread out there that compensations would be paid in December 2023. That did not come from us and it is not true.”
“We are meeting with owners and caretakers of properties on the right of way and do the needful so we can escalate to the steps. Until the basic things are done, we can’t be talking about compensation yet.”
Dr Dappa warned members of the public to be wary of fake news and unverified information, promising that the BDKC will constantly update the public on issues affecting the road expansion project.
As part of variations to the Bonny-Bodo Road project, the three contiguously interconnected roads – Shell Road, Mission Road and King William Dappa Pepple Road – as well as Court Road leading the King Perekule Palace are to be expanded to evacuate more traffic in lieu of when the road is completed.
