The 1993 class of Bonny National Grammar School (BNGS) and the Government Girls Secondary School, Finima, both in Bonny Local Government Area of Rivers State, popularly known as Royal Comrades of Bonny, is set to mark its 30th anniversary.
President of the group, Ipiriala Jumbo told Kristina Reports that the celebration, which starts on Friday, December 1, 2023, will kick off with the commissioning of several corporate social responsibility (CSR) projects in both of their alma mater.
According to him, aside the dignitaries expected at the event, an array of resource persons including Edith Hart, a former Chairman of the Association of Professional Women Engineers of Nigeria (APWEN), Bonny Branch, Nathaniel Longjohn, PhD, Godbless Nwosa, and Fubara Dan-Jumbo, PhD, Chairman of Royal Comrades Board of Trustees, will grace the occasion.
He predicated the gesture on the need to give back to their alma mater “as part of our passion in the celebration of the anniversary”, adding that “these are the institutions that shaped our intellectual, moral and social backgrounds enabling us to make progress in life, we’re duty bound to reciprocate”.
In his remarks, Chairman of the Board of Trustees of Royal Comrades, Fubara Dan-Jumbo, PhD averred that globally, society is gravitating towards what he referred to as “a digital society” where computer training cannot be ruled out for students, explaining that this was the reason for building a state-of-the-art ICT Centre.
Also speaking about the event, Vice President of the association, Pirinye Kabaka-Ehuwa, and Vice President of the Board of Trustees, Gift George-Green, described it as a heroic home coming for members of the group, and a time of refreshing reunion.
Outlining the programme of activities, Chairman of the Central Planning Committee, Ida John-Hart said that aside the projects commissioning, there will be a Road Show, Interactive Sessions in both schools, Gala Night, Dinner, Entertainment, and a Special Thanksgiving Service at the St. Stephen’s Cathedral, Bonny.
He added that the items to be commissioned include a projector, public address system, water tank, screen board, and a state-of-art world-class Information and Communication Technology (ICT) laboratory.
Checks by Kristina Reports in both schools indicate that both teachers and students were waiting in excited anticipation for the event.
