The Amanyanabo Football Tournament, an annual soccer competition among football clubs in Bonny Island, Rivers State has continued to be a platform for unifying the people of the area, its organizers, Grafton Entertainment have said.
Managing Director of Grafton Entertainment, Tonye Ibiama said this on Monday, October 17, 2023 at a media briefing in Bonny, Rivers State to announce the onset of events lined up for this year’s edition.
He applauded the Amanyanabo and Natural Ruler of Bonny Kingdom, His Majesty, King Dr Edward William Dappa Pepple III, CON, DSSRS, JP, Perekule XI, and the Nigeria Liquefied Natural Gas Limited (NLNG) for their ongoing support for the tournament.
“The Amanyanabo Football Tournament has brought unity within the Kingdom as it is a vehicle that brings everyone together.”
“We have also been able to export one player from the competition to Portugal and have also been able to get one of our players to play for the Nigerian national under-23 team. International and local scouts that have also attended the tournament.”
“There is a huge potential in Bonny Kingdom in Sports and we laud the efforts of His Majesty, the King and NLNG for making this happen.”
According to him, the third edition of the prestigious football tournament is billed to get underway on Saturday, December 2, 2023 in Bonny, with eligible Bonny Kingdom based teams implored to register and stand a chance to win up to N6 million in prices and paid allowances.
He further informed that registration forms can be obtained at Grafton Place, Bonny, as registration has already begun on Monday, October 16, 2023, and would run until Monday, October 30, 2023.
The Grafton Entertainment CEO stated that the screening process to select 15 teams who will join the 2022 defending champions, Godbless United FC to bring the tally to 16 was on.
He added that the event is in honour of His Majesty, King Dr Edward Asimini William Dappa Pepple III, Perekule XI, CON, DSSRS, JP, Natural Ruler and Amanyanabo of Grand Bonny Kingdom, whose brainchild it is and sponsored by NLNG.
