The Rivers State Youth Leaders Assembly (RSYLA) has vehemently condemned the killing of a Divisional Police Officer in Rivers State.
Speaker of RSYLA, which is the apex indigenous youth leadership organization in Rivers State, Prince Jeminimiema charged community and youth-based organizations, youth leaders and presidents in the Orashi region to accord the security agencies every necessary support to ensure that “the perpetrators of this condemnable act are brought to book to face the law”.
The Orashi region comprising Abua/Odual, Ahoada-East and Ahoada-West has recently been transforming into a crime hub defying every effort at curbing crime and criminality in that axis and spilling over to the adjoining communities.
The onslaught of the current Commissioner of Police, Polycarp Nwonyi against crime hubs across the State witnessed a clap-back Friday, September 9, 2023 when suspected cultists believed to be of the Icelander cult group ambushed aa police team, killed its leader and Divisional Police Officer (DPO) of Ahoada and dismembered his body.
They went further to post the video, which has now gone viral, where they displayed and body with voices in the background mocking the slain officer.
The slain officer, Bako Angbashim, a Superintendent of Police (SP), is described by his colleagues and community people in the areas where he has had his tours of duty as a “gallant police officer”, “a fearless man” and “friendly law enforcement officer loved by all”.
A statement by his Senior Special Assistant (SSA) on Media and Publicity, Ben Tamuno, the RSYLA Speaker stated that the arrest of these criminal elements will serve as a deterrent to prevent reoccurrence, regretting that “it is unfortunate to hunt and kill those protecting our lives and properties,” saying the development “is indeed unfortunate”.
“The soul of the DPO will not rest until the perpetrators of this heinous act are apprehended, and brought to book to face the law of the Federal Republic of Nigeria.”
He sympathized with “the entire members of the Police Community in Rivers State, especially, the award winning Commissioner of Police of Rivers State, CP. Nwonyi Polycarp Emeka, PhD, and the families of the deceased person, SP. Bako Angbashim”.
He prayed “that Almighty God grant them the fortitude to bear this irreparable loss in Jesus Christ Name. Amen”.
