The Super Falcons Right-back, Michelle Alozie was emotional after Nigeria’s Round of 16 loss to England as she promises to come back blazing if she makes it to the next World Cup
“I’m coming back with vengeance. You know, I missed my PK and I had the opportunity in overtime that I put it away. I’m coming up blazing if I’m able to come to the next world cup. This isn’t going to be the end of us. This can’t be the end of our story.”
Alozie who plays as a forward for the National Women’s Soccer League team, Houston Dash was made to play in the right-back position for Nigeria and she took the role by the head and absolutely nailed it.
She has been rock solid in defence for the Super Falcons with dribbles, marking, tackles and take-ons that saw Nigeria concede only two goals in four games.
Against England, she proved to be a terror for Lauren James which saw the English Woman visibly frustrated and sent off for a stamp on Alozie’s back.
Chiamaka Nnadozie was in tears after the penalty shootout and was consoled by Chloe Kelly and other England players.
Speaking after the game Nnadozie expressed her pride in the team and her knowledge that the team was seen as an underdog.
“Right now I feel so sad because we lost the game but then I’m proud of Nigeria, I’m proud of this team. We fought so hard, it was not what the whole world expected from us but you know we have to show them our attitude and what we can do… Yeah they have to see more of us”
Nnadozie was named Woman of the Match in the first game against Canada after a stunning performance and saving Christine Sinclair’s penalty kick.
She has since then gone on to make crucial saves which many have labelled as ” impossible, ridiculous, etc”
The 22-year-old has been an extremely crucial part of the Country’s success at the 2023 World Cup and cannot be dismissed from the conversation.
