Defending Champions, D’Tigress are through to the Semi-finals of the 2023 Women’s Afrobasket Championship following a 59-52 win over Mozambique on Wednesday Night at the BK Arena in Rwanda.
After asserting dominance in the group stage, D’Tigress had to contend with Mozambique who on paper were an easy side to beat but on the court proved to be a challenge. The defending Champions trailed by as much as 14 points but rallied back and got the win.
The win against Mozambique sees the Nigerian side set up a mouthwatering clash with host Rwanda, who turned around an 11 points deficit to win the thriller against Uganda 66-61 and advance to the semi-finals for the very first time.
Amy Okonkwo got 17 points, six rebounds, an assist, a steal and a block to lead her side to a comeback. Elizabeth Balogun sunk in 12 points, six rebounds and two blocks and Murjanatu Musa contributed to the offensive end with eight points and held the defensive end with three important blocks, as well as seven rebounds. Mozambique’s Tamara Seda got a double-double, scoring 13 points and getting 10 rebounds.
Nigeria would be up against Rwanda by 5pm today.
