Senator Ahmed Lawan representing Yobe North in ther Senate has just been elected President of the 9th Senate of the Federal Republic of Nigeria.
Lawan polled 79 votes to trounce his close rival and fellow party faithful, Senator Ali Ndume, who polled 28 votes and emerge head of the 9th National Assembly.
The election was a hotly contested one as the Lawan’s party, the All Progressives Congress (APC) worked round the clock to forestall a repeat of the 2015 experience where the immediate past Senate President, Bukola Saraki outsmarted the party to emerge President with the support of the opposition Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).
Voting is currently ongoing for the position of Deputy Senate President where Senator Ovie Omo-Agege is expected to emerge as winner.
