Less than 48 hours to the commemoration of June 12, President Muhammadu Buhari today signed the Public Holiday Amendment bill into law, which now legalizes June 12 as Democracy Day in Nigeria.
This development was disclosed to state house correspondents by the Presidential Aide on National Assembly Matters, Senator Ita Enang, who stated that the President’s assent to the amendment dissolves May 29 as a public holiday.
The assent to the Public Holiday Amendment Act by the President automatically makes June 12 of every year a Democracy Day and a public holiday.
