Rivers Police Commissioner Knuckles Up for Showdown with Criminals

The Rivers State Police Command has assured residents of Rivers State that it would sustain its relentless fight against all forms of crime and criminality in the State.

This assurance was given on Tuesday, June 6, 2023 during press briefing at the State Police Command Headquarters along Moscow Road, Port Harcourt by the State Commissioner of Police, Polycarp Nwonyi.

The Command is not relenting in the fight against crime and criminality in the State. Since my assumption as the 44th Commissioner of Police in the State, I have vowed to rid out all forms of criminal activities, and to make the State habitable for those doing genuine business.

He also reeled out some notable achievements of the Command following his assumption of office as Commissioner.

Some of these achievements include the arrest of two suspected cultists and recovery of firearms, the re-arrest of a jail escapee, arrest of two notorious car snatchers and recovery of firearms, and raid of a notorious cultists den in Ahoada Local Government Area of the State.

“1. On 01/06/2023 about 0540hrs, based on information, operatives of the Command raided the house of one Prince Ake ‘m’ of Ekpena Community in Ahoada East LGA, hideout of a notorious Greenlander cult group, and arrested one Progress Moses, aka Body Blinks ‘m,” aged 25yrs of the same address.”

“Exhibit recovered include; one locally made wooden AK-47 rifle, one toy pistol, two motorcycles, one with Reg. No. WER 301 QJ Imo State and the other without number plate. One machete, one knife, and some suspected charms.”

“2. On 02/06/2023, Operatives of the Command arrested one Peter Ogudo, ‘m’ aged 32, a native of Awara in Ohaji/Egbema Local Government Area of Imo State, in his hideout at Nkpor- Rumuolumeni, Port Harcourt, for the murder of two persons in his community.”

“The suspect had been on the watch list of the Police since he escaped from lawful custody during jailbreak in the Owerri Correctional Centre in April 2021.”

“3. On 02/06 2023, Operatives of the Command, while conducting stop and search, arrested one Ndubuisi Brown, aged 48 and one Amaechi Kenneth, aged 35, and could not give satisfactory account of the said vehicle, along Army Range Road, Eneka.”

“Exhibit recovered include; one red-coloured Lexus 300 Jeep with Lagos Reg. No. APP 664 BQ/”

“4. On 04/06/2023 at about 1730hrs, Operatives of the Command acting on a tip-off, raided the Den of Greenlander cult group terrorizing Udebu Community in Ahoada East LGA and its environs. During the inferno, one Bright ‘m’ surname unknown, from Ahoada West LGA, was fatally wounded. He was rushed to General Hospital Ahoada, where he was certified dead.”

“Exhibits recovered; one locally fabricated G-3 rifle with eight rounds of live G-3 ammunition, one locally made pistol that uses AK47 ammunition, one cutlass, and three phones.”

CP Nwonyi expressed his desire to make the State habitable for residents to live and for those doing genuine businesses, urging parents to monitor the activities of their children and disabuse their minds from societal pressures that could lead them to crime.

“I call on parents/guardians to monitor the activities of their children/wards so as to ensure they do not succumb to societal pressures to commit crimes. While I Commend and urge Officers and men of the Command to ensure crime and criminality is brought to the barest minimum in the State.”
