Sincerity of Purpose, Honesty, Hallmarks of my Representation – Assembly Candidate Assures Northern Community

The House of Assembly candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) for Bonny Constituency, Victor Oko-Jumbo has assured the Northern Community that his representation model when elected into office would be etched on sincerity of purpose, honesty and realism.

Oko-Jumbo, who said this on Sunday, January 8, 2023 at a Town Hall Meeting with the Hausa Community in Bonny, Rivers State, said issues affecting northerners in Bonny LGA would be given the necessary attention with a view to resolving and achieving a harmonious co-existence between them and their hosts.

“I come with sincerity of purpose, not to lie to you or the community. I come to partner with you; let us work together, not to come here and deceive you.”

The former Student union activist and grassroots politician appealed to the Hausa Community to avail him their votes, assuring them that votes for him would count for something when he assumes office, stressing that his pattern of stakeholder engagement was different from that of other politicians because he wants to be accountable to the people when elected into office.

He asserted that he aspires to the zenith in politics thus it was imperative that his career path in politics is not tainted with dishonesty of any sort, maintaining that the votes of Nigerians would count in the 2023 polls and they should utilize their votes judiciously to emplace responsible leaders in public office.

“I need to grow politically, even the House of Assembly is not my ultimate destination; so, I have to do the right things so that I can be trusted with higher responsibilities.”

Responding, the Chief Imam of Bonny Central Mosque, Yusuf Lamis informed the PDP candidate that there were some issues that needs to be addressed, stressing that there was the need for a non-indigene office to deal with issues affecting them in the area.

Lamis further informed the frontline House of Assembly candidate that the Hausa Community needs a burial ground in Bonny, pleading with indigenes of the area involved in recent disputes with commercial motorcycle riders, popularly known and okada, to calm down and use appropriate channels to address any grievances they have with them.

Some members of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) of Northern extraction in Bonny LGA said it was important to entrench inclusiveness in party affairs as a way of maximizing support of the people and protecting the interest of the party, insisting that there is need for tolerance and peaceful co-existence to avert unnecessary tension in the community.

The 2023 general elections will be holding soon wherein Nigerians will be voting a new president, vice president and members of the Senate and House of Representatives on Saturday, February 25; and governors, deputy governors and members of the state Houses of Assembly on Saturday, March 11, 2023.

In attendance at the meeting were the Leader of the Bonny Legislative Assembly (BLA), Rt. Hon. Larry Ibaningo, the lawmaker representing Ward 6 in the BLA, Enefaa Allaputa, the Chairman of the Hausa Community in Bonny LGA, Sanusi Abubakar, his executives and members, as well as officials of the Oko-Jumbo campaign team.
