The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has reassured Nigerians that electronic transmission of results remains the default and only mode of results management for the forthcoming 2023 general elections.
According to a press release signed by its National Commissioner and Chairman, Information and Voter Education Committee, Festus Okoye, and published on its verified Facebook page on Sunday, August 21, 2022, the Commission reiterated that the electronic transmission of results has come to stay.
Following some misunderstanding arising from an interview Mr. Okoye granted to a national daily on how the election results will be transmitted in the forthcoming 2023 polls, INEC reassured Nigerians that electronic transmission of results has come to stay.
“The entire gamut of result management is provided for in sections 60, 62 and 64 of the electoral Act 2022. In line with the provision of the law, the commission, in April this year, released a detailed clarification of the procedure for transmission, collation and declaration of results which was shared with all stakeholders and uploaded to our website” INEC added.
The Commission, however, appealed to Nigerians to avail themselves of the provisions of the Electoral Act to exercise their franchise in the forthcoming General Elections in 2023.
