As the Nigeria continues to witness an alarming rate of suicides by young people, a university don, Dr Funmi Williams has challenged depression-induced individuals to talk to someone instead of taking their lives.

She stressed that there was hardly anyone on earth that does not have one level of setback or the other but the sole resolve to move on despite the odds is the way out.

Dr Williams, who lectures in the Microbiology department of the Rivers State University (RSU), Port Harcourt, attributed the rising trend to lack of mentorship and loneliness.

She stated that these were the reasons behind the rising spate of suicide-induced deaths in Nigeria.

The wellness and relationship coach lamented the ever busy schedule of parents and caregivers which has done more harm than good to young people.

She further informed that without interaction with young people on the basis of mentorship, depression may have a multiplier effect that might be disastrous.
