The much anticipated Edo State Governorship election which took place today, September 19, 2020 in all the 18 Local Government Areas in the state have witnessed to a large extent non-adherence to COVID-19 protocols such as social distancing and wearing of facemask by the electorates.

Although officials of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) played their part in putting in place guidelines of the COVID-19 pandemic.

As at the time of press, voting activities in all the polling units were about concluding as few voters were around to know the outcome of results.

The two main contenders, Governor Godwin Obaseki of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) and Pastor Ize-Iyamu of the All Progressives Congress (APC) cast their votes in their respective wards expressing confidence of emerging victories in the coming days.

Political analysts in their respective views predict that the election will be a tough challenge for both candidates due to historical and cross carpeting activities which have occurred between the two main contenders who have one time or the other been in these two parties; the APC and the PDP.
