As permutations for the 2023 general elections continue in top gear, more alignments and realignments might be a recurring decimal in the political equation. The outcomes of these would affect both the presidential and governorship elections.
Already in Rivers State, an ex-ally of the former Minister for Transportation, Rotimi Amaechi, and a former Commissioner for Transport, George Tolofari just indicated that discussions were ongoing which outcome might lead to him and his allies rejoining the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).
Tolofari, who was a two-term member of the Rivers State House of Assembly on the platform of the PDP, jumped the ship of the All Progressives Congress (APC) days ago.
The former Transport Commissioner, who was the Chairman of the APC Caucus in the State and Leader of the APC in his home Bonny LGA, was sighted with Rivers State Governor, Nyesom Wike, and PDP Governorship hopeful, Siminialayi Fubara, alongside other APC stalwarts from Bonny LGA, in photographs which surfaced online about 9pm on Thursday, July 21, 2022.
Others seen in the trending pictures were a former member of the House of Representatives, Randolph Brown, former member of Rivers State House of Assembly, Aye Pepple, a former Caretaker Committee Chairman, Bonny LGA, Adonye Dappa Wilcox, and Chairman of APC, Bonny LGA Chapter, Israel Pepple, amongst others.
This development is coming hours after Dakuku Peterside, erstwhile Director General of the Nigerian Maritime Administration and Safety Agency (NIMASA), called on members of the All Progressives Congress (APC) to bond together and prepare for the 2023 polls. It appears Bonny is already down for PDP ahead of the 2023 polls.
Unconfirmed sources believe that by this move, George Tolofari has pledged support for the gubernatorial ambition of Siminialayi Fubara and would consequently work towards its realization against that of his former political ally, Tonye Patrick Cole.
Recall that Tolofari, before announcing his exit from the APC, had, in the company of other APC stalwarts in the State, publicly nominated and endorsed the candidature of the APC gubernatorial aspirant, Tonye Patrick Cole.
When contacted, Tolofari described his latest rapport with top members of the PDP as a courtesy call and that he has no regrets of rejoining the PDP.
He, however, could not confirm his full membership of the PDP as at the time of this report.
