In a shocking turn of events near Ahoada in Ahoada-East Local Government Area of Rivers State, a group of young boys, including a 13-year-old, were apprehended by the ONELGA Security, Peace Advisory Committee, (OSPAC) in Erema, Ogba/Egbema/Ndoni LGA of the State following a failed kidnap attempt.
The incident, which happened on Wednesday, July 17, when the gang, armed with two AK 47s and locally made pump action rifles, attempted to abduct and harm their target.
Fortunately, the intended victim had been warned in advance, thus thwarting the sinister plot.
As the gang ventured out to execute their plan, they were met with a swift response from the OSPAC officers.
A high-speed chase ensued along the East-West Road, culminating in a dramatic crash involving the vehicle transporting the suspects.
Despite the chaos, OSPAC personnel managed to maintain control of the situation, and apprehended the young perpetrators.
Disturbingly, among those apprehended was a 13-year-old boy, identified as the group’s intelligence operative.
The revelation of such youth involvement in criminal activities has raised significant concerns within the community.
The Police and other security agencies are now investigating the origins of the gang’s firearms and the circumstances leading to their criminal association.
The Erema OSPAC driver, despite the crash, displayed remarkable resilience in securing the suspects until additional support arrived.
This incident serves as a stark reminder of the ongoing challenges faced by law enforcement in combating juvenile delinquency and organized crime in the region.
The Rivers State Police Command is yet to make a statement on the incident.
