“Development is only possible in the presence of peace, harmony and open-mindedness. Therefore, it is imperative that we should embrace peace and be law-abiding in all our doings.”
This was how Anengi Barasua, Chairman of Bonny Local Government Area of Rivers State, advertised the minds of her constituents to consider that, for development to thrive, there is the need for a conducive, secure and ambient atmosphere to subsist, thus inflammatory statements that have the potential of causing a break down of law and order should be avoided at all costs.
Barasua, who made this assertion at the Commissioning of the Bonny Consulate on Saturday, March 5, 2022 in Bonny, Rivers State, used the occasion to announce the proposed transit terminal at the Bonny boundary along the Bonny-Bodo Road, which, according to her would obviate traffic challenges, control population upsurge and serve a security measure when actualized.
“Your Majesty Sir, permit me to bring to the fore the proposed Bonny Motor Park at the entrance of the Bonny-Bodo Road, which is of great importance and a necessity for traffic and population control and security measure to the entire local government after the completion of the expectant road.”
The Bonny LG boss harped on the notion that the entirety of Bonny LGA remains “one people with one King”, maintaining that provocative statements that can amplify an already tensed polity was inimical to the peace and progress of the area.
“We should avoid anything that would threaten the peace and enabling environment necessary for the mutual benefit of our private and corporate citizens.”
“We should discontinue making inflammatory statement with the intent to disparage, abuse, incite, or escalate the already tense situation in the community. Words spoken on or offline must be civil and brotherly, public statements must be made wisely and considered to be necessary for the peace and progress of the kingdom. WE ARE ONE PEOPLE WITH ONE KING!”
She called on the people of the area to sustain the trajectory of conceptualizing developmental objectives that can translate to celebrative engagements such as the Consulate commissioning when implemented, stressing that such peace-oriented disposition was critical to attracting investors to the island LGA and for development to escalate.
“What we as a people can do is to ensure that we continue to conceive developmental ideas and freely express them, to transform our spoken words to actions that attracts gatherings, such as this, and to ensure that there is a peaceful environment to operate and secure the confidence of external investors and investors in our community.”
“Today, words are being put into action, dreams actualized; standing before us is an edifice “Bonny Consulate” to be used for business purposes and to promote our heritage and Tourism.”
