Nigeria’s national female team, the Falconets lost against Ghana’s Black Princesses 3-1 on penalties.

It was the maiden edition of the West African Football Union (WAFU) B, Women’s Cup.

The Falconets failure to net their first three penalties of the shoot-out gave the Ghanaian ladies the trophy, making them the pioneer winners of the tournament.

The one-all-draw at the end of regulation time led to penalties with the Falconets falling short of the title, losing to hosts, Ghana.

Flourish Sebastine

The Falconets missed the first three penalties of the shoot-out, cancelling Flourish Sabastine’s effort to see the Falconets lift the trophy after she equalized in the 86th minute of regulation time.

Nonetheless, the Falconets end their brilliant run in the competition as runers-up, winning all four of their games on the road to the final.

They hit the net 19 times and conceded none just as Esther Ajakaye finishes as the top scorer of the competition with six goals.

The Falconets might have lost out on the trophy but they are winners in most books on African football and one thing is certain; the future is bright.
