A first class graduate of the University of Port Harcourt, Boma Halliday, has been appointed Special Adviser on Students’ Affairs by the Chairman of Bonny Local Government Area, David Irimagha.
The LG Chairman also promised to support him in the furtherance of his academic pursuits to gain masters and doctorate degrees.
Boma Halliday, a student entrepreneur and publisher of an online magazine, Bonny Island Magazine, hails from Bonny LGA. He studied Educational Psychology and graduated with a 4.60 cumulative grade point average (CGPA).
Receiving him in his office in Bonny, alongside his Vice, Anengi Barasua, the LG Council Secretary, Omoni Longjohn, Chief of Staff, Uriel John-Jumbo, and other members of his cabinet, the Bonny LG chief executive stated that “Education remains a solid bedrock for sustainable development and a platform for a more prospective future for the younger generation”.
Irimagha expressed pride in Halliday’s achievement, lauding him for such a remarkable feat, and drawing from his experience as an undergraduate, noted that academic life as a student was not easy in Nigeria.
“I am really impressed with such intellectual prowess and academic excellence, the journey and challenges is not an easy ride and am glad you surmounted it and emerged successful, you’re hereby appointed as my Special Assistant on Students Affairs with immediate effect. Furthermore, I am going to make it as an Executive law for any student with such grade in any field of study to get an appointment in the council or a job, this will add as a support in furthering your academic pursuit,” he said.
Speaking, Vice Chairman of the Bonny LGA, Anengi Barasua noted that “Boma has not only made himself proud but has also made Bonny proud with his exceptional achievement”.
She encouraged teachers in Bonny not to be deterred by the challenges in the system, advising students to be studious irrespective of their family background or status of school because primary and secondary schools remains their educational foundation.
Also speaking, the Supervisor for Education in the LGA, Christaben Hart praised Halliday for bringing glory to his family, community, local government and state, urging to aspire to higher heights in his educational pursuit.
The first class graduand, Boma Halliday, was accompanied by his father, Gogo Halliday, teachers and students of his primary and secondary alma mater, Model Primary School and St. Paul’s Comprehensive Secondary School, all in Bonny, and other well-wishers.
