Tinubu Commissions Assumpta Flyover, Major Roads, Legacy Projects, and Launches Governance Book in Owerri
President Bola Ahmed Tinubu on Tuesday stormed Owerri, the Imo State capital, to commission a number of landmark infrastructure projects completed under the administration of Governor Hope Uzodimma.
The highlight of the visit was the formal opening of the Assumpta/Control Post Flyover, a twin flyover designed to end years of perennial traffic congestion at one of Owerri’s busiest junctions.

Constructed by Craneburg Construction Company, the project began in January 2025 and was delivered in record time.
Besides the flyover, the President also commissioned the newly reconstructed Owerri–Mbaise–Obowo–Umuahia Road, a strategic highway linking Imo to Abia State, long considered an economic artery for trade and movement between the two South-East states.
The commissioning train further moved to the Emmanuel Iwuanyanwu International Conference Centre, a state-of-the-art facility rebuilt and renamed to serve as a hub for global and regional summits, as well as social and cultural gatherings.

Tinubu also cut the tape at the Imo Concorde Hilton Hotel, an iconic hospitality edifice given a facelift to boost the state’s tourism and investment drive.
In addition, he unveiled the Imo Digital Learning Centre, a modern education resource hub aimed at expanding digital knowledge among students and youths in the state.
The President’s itinerary equally featured the public presentation of a new book authored by Governor Hope Uzodimma, titled “A Decade of Impactful Progressive Governance in Nigeria.”
The publication documents the achievements and challenges of governance under the All Progressives Congress (APC) over the past decade, while also reflecting on Uzodimma’s contributions to party growth and state development.
Speaking at the event, the APC National Chairman, Prof. Nentawe Yilwatda, described the book as a “timely account” of the party’s journey, adding that it provides lessons for sustaining progressive governance across Nigeria.
Addressing the crowd during the ceremonies, President Tinubu expressed gratitude to Nigerians for their patience and resilience amid the country’s ongoing reforms.
“Thank you for your resilience, thank you for your endurance.”
“Nigeria is getting on the path of progress,” he said.
The President went further to declare that “Nigeria’s worst days are over,” citing recent economic indicators to back his optimism.
He stated that the nation’s Gross Domestic Product grew by 4.23 percent in the second quarter of 2025, while inflation dropped from 24.5 percent to 20.1 percent within the year. According to him, these improvements, along with renewed investor confidence, are evidence that the country is steadily rebounding under the Renewed Hope Agenda.
He commended Governor Uzodimma for what he described as “legacy projects” that would outlive his administration, stressing that quality infrastructure remains a key driver of economic growth, social harmony, and national unity.
Governor Uzodimma, in his remarks, assured the people that the administration would not relent in delivering people-oriented projects that bring relief to communities and strengthen the foundations of Imo’s development.
The projects, many of which are located in strategic parts of Owerri and adjoining areas, are expected to ease traffic, improve inter-state connectivity, boost the economy, and position Imo State as a rising hub for tourism, conferences, and commerce in the South-East.
With the commissioning of the Assumpta Flyover, the unveiling of other landmark facilities, and the launch of a governance compendium, observers say Imo State has taken a bold step toward overcoming decades of infrastructural deficit while sending a strong message of continuity, resilience, and progressive leadership.
