The Super Falconets on Saturday, January 20, 2024, got a 1-0 victory over Burundi at the Moshood Abiola Stadium to secure a ticket to the FIFA U20 Women’s World Cup in Colombia.
Saturday’s encounter was the second affair between both sides as the first leg ended 1-0 in favour of the Falconets, a fortnight ago at Dar es Salaam.
It was substitute, Mary Lucky who set up Esther Ajakaye to break the deadlock for the Falconets in the 79th minute, making it back-to-back wins over the East Africans.
Nigeria has now qualified for all 11 of the U20 WWC since her debut in 2002, finishing as runners-up in 2010 and 2014.
Nigeria’s last outing in 2022 saw them exit in the quarterfinal. They would be looking to win their maiden title.
The FIFA U-20 Women’s World Cup 2024 will take place in Colombia from Saturday, August 31, to Sunday, September 22, 2024
