The smartest children across schools in Bonny Local Government Area would be gunning for the best prizes in the 6th edition of the prestigious annual Bonny Island Spelling Bee Competition.
The competition, which is billed to hold on Saturday, July 6, 2019, at the Ibanise Hall, Akiama, Bonny, is organized by the Youth Resource Centre (YRC), Bonny.
The Youth Resource Centre is a non-profit and nongovernmental organization, focused on building the capacity of youths and equipping them with strategic skill sets for the future.
The competition, according to the Manager of the YRC, Bitrus Babayo, is aimed at improving students’ spelling, increasing their vocabularies and providing them with opportunities for developing healthy competitive skills.
He further explained that the competition focuses on assisting young people improve their self- esteem, create pride in academic achievements and build a solid foundation for their future education and careers.
The winner of the competition will go home with an Educational fund of N100,000, a trophy, and an award of books set worth N20,000, while the first runner-up will get a trophy and award of books set worth N15,000, and the second runner-up also grabs a trophy and award of books set worth N10,000.
Bitrus added that all contestants will also get a dictionary and mathematical set, among other prizes.
