As the #EndBadGovernance hunger and hardship nationwide protest entered its third day, a combined team of security operatives conducted a show of force on Saturday, August 3, 2024 in Rivers State.
Despite peaceful demonstrations in some parts of the country, several Northern states experienced a breakdown of law and order, with hoodlums looting and burgling homes and businesses.
Curfews have been imposed in Kano, Kaduna, Katsina, and Yobe states, accompanied by a heavy security presence.
Kristina Reports teams on the ground covering Day 3 of the protests, observed officers from the Police Counter Terrorism Unit, identifiable by their red headgear, arriving at Pleasure Park.
These officers, along with regular policemen, blocked the road, clutching their guns tightly. For about five minutes, they impeded movement in an apparent show of force before moving on.
Their presence succeeded in sending a clear message to the small group of protesters gathered at the park. Many protesters, who were holding placards, refrained from lifting their signs as they watched the officers drive past.
Some protesters shouted, “Nah Una we dey fight for” (We are fighting for you too), as the security operatives moved on.
The show of force by the security operatives highlighted the tension and determination on both sides as the protests continue across the nation.
