“This is a very helpless situation we are in, in this country. I have been at home for weeks, I can’t go to work because of the cost of transport. It didn’t double, the cost is four times what we pay.
“I mean, how will I spend 7k for transportation? How much is my salary?”
These were the exact words of Patrick Bennett, a commuter by sea who spoke to Kristina Reports on Saturday, September 7, 2024 on the hike in transportation cost
Bennett expressed his bitterness over the situation, adding that it’s a way of making people more impoverished.
“All my salary, I use it for transport, I can’t even save for the future. It’s really difficult.”
In another chat with Kristina Reports, Patience Obilor told newsmen that she has paid thrice what she pays to work everyday.
“I’m just coming from Abuloma, from kalio, last week I paid N200, now I paid N300, from kalio to my house, before I used to pay N500, now dem say if no be N1,000, make I trek. I don’t know where we’re heading to in this country.”
In a chat with Kristina Reports, an elderly resident of Ibaka Community, Akaluogbo Daniel, described the situation as “out of hand” adding that, “it’s not ideal”.
“I was paying N800 from ATC to Marine Base, now it’s N1,000. In fact, while I was complaining, the driver was telling me that I should pray that it doesn’t increase to N1,500. Fuel price per litre is now 1k.”
