Few lawmakers opt for working quietly but greatly impacting the lives and livelihoods of their constituents.
The member representing Degema/Bonny federal constituency in the House of Representatives, Hon. Randolph Iwo Oruene Brown is one of such parliamentarians who would rather allow the impact they have made and the people so impacted to speak for him.
Aside the constituency projects earlier published on this blog, these are his legislative performance scorecard for his constituents to assess him by.
MOTIONS IN THE HOUSE
1. Motion for the budgetary provision and approval of the ongoing reconstruction work on the Federal Post Office, Bonny.
2. Pivotal role in course accreditation and full commencement of the Federal
Polytechnic of Oil and Gas, Bonny through advocacy and in synergy with the Amanyanabo of Bonny Kingdom, His Majesty, King Edward William Dappa Pepple III, Perekule XI, CON, the Bonny Chiefs’ Council, and other relevant stakeholders.
3. Moved and sponsored a motion on the 1st of March, 2017, on the abandonment of the construction of the Bonny-Bodo Road project. A committee was set up immediately to interface with the Federal Government and today the result of his efforts are obvious.
4. Moved a motion on the 2nd of May, 2017, mandating all oil companies to establish operational administrative offices in the region where they are working.
5. Moved a motion on the 14th of July, 2017, for proper management of coastal waterways and removal of ship wrecks especially on the Bonny-Port Harcourt sea route.
6. Moved a motion on the 22nd of March, 2017, on the floor of the House calling for the urgent intervention of the Federal Government to curb the incessant security challenges on our waterways affecting the lives of our people and preventing them from going about their daily social and economic activities. It specifically urged the security
agencies like the Navy and Marine Police to live up to their responsibilities.
7. Moved a motion on the 22nd of February, 2018, on the need for the Nigeria Liquefied Natural Gas (NLNG) to take over the Bonny-Bodo Road project in consideration of a tax rebate by the Federal Government.
8. Shortlisted 50 sons and daughters of the Degema/Bonny federal constituency through his constituency office to undergo training in various skills acquisition programmes piloted by the National Directorate for Employment
(NDE) under the Federal Government. The first batch are done with their respective training already while the second batch will soon commence in earnest.
9. Moved a motion on Tuesday, 3rd July, 2018, for an investigation into the criteria for the admission of pupils into unity schools by the National Common Entrance Examination Board (NCEEB). He noted that the NCEEB published cut-off marks for admission into unity schools drastically varies from state to state.
10. On Monday, 23rd July, 2018, Hon. Randolph Brown, alongside his colleagues from Rivers State: Hon. Ogundu Kingsley Chinda, Hon. Nnam-Obi Uchechukwu, Hon. Boma Goodhead, Hon. Awaji-Inombek Dagomie Abiante, Hon. Jerome Amadi Eke, Hon. Chidi Wihioka, Hon. Blessing Nsiegbe, Hon. Betty Okagua-Apiafi, Hon. Gogo Bright Tamuno, Hon. Barinada Mpigi, Hon. Maurice Pronen, and Hon. Kenneth Amadi Chikere, co-sponsored a motion on the need to improve facilities at and upgrade the Nigerian Sea School, Isaka, Rivers State to an internationally recognized diving school.
11. Frontier efforts for the approval of Bonny UTME/ICT Centre by the Joint Admissions and Matriculations Board (JAMB) in collaboration with key relevant stakeholders.
For the second time, Hon. Randolph Brown is currently working on motions of urgent national importance on the urgent need to address security challenges of sea pirates around the fishing settlements along the Bonny waterways.
