PRESS RELEASE

EIGHT JOURNALISTS TO FACE DISCIPLINARY ACTIONS

Eight members of the Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ), Rivers State Council, are to face disciplinary measures for their role in the purported suspension of the State Council Chairman, Mr Stanley Job Stanley by the Radio Rivers Chapel.

The eight members attended the illegal meeting called by the suspended chairman of Radio Rivers Chapel, Walson Ibim Asako, where the purported decision to suspend the State Council Chairman was taken.

They have been referred to the Ethics and Disciplinary Committee for investigation and actions.

A statement signed by the State Council Secretary, Ike Wigodo, said the State Executive Council (SEC) took the decision in an emergency meeting last Monday, 27th August, 2018.

The meeting presided over by the Vice Chairman, Paul Bazia-Nsaneh, frowned at the embarrassing statement aired on the Radio Rivers FM and Love FM by some disgruntled members of the Chapel, to the effect that the State Chairman, Mr Stanley Job Stanley, has been suspended from the chapel.

Those to appear before the Ethics and Disciplinary Committee are, Asitonka Toms, Dick Kwani, B.B. Nwikabari, Sybil Dimkpa, Carol Sika,  Festus Wike, I.B.Bobmanuel and Fortune Eleyi.

The NUJ warned members against bringing the Union and its leadership to public ridicule and opprobrium.

“The Council also warned the Management of the Rivers State Broadcasting Corporation (RSBC) to stay clear from NUJ’s internal affairs, saying the Union will not condone further interference in its internal affairs.

“The NUJ as a body is bigger than individuals and will not allow the obsessive ambition and selfish interest of few individuals within and outside the Union to override or destroy its collective interest”, the statement said.

The Council, however, charged the Ethics and Disciplinary Committee to discharge its duty in line with the Union’s constitutional provisions.
