The Director General of the Nigerian Maritime Administration and Safety Agency (NIMASA), Dakuku Peterside has accused Rivers State Governor, Nyesom Wike of running a cult-like government where governance is shrouded in secrecy.
Peterside, who was the candidate of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in the 2015 gubernatorial election in the state, stated this during a live phone-in program on Love 97.7FM radio station in Port Harcourt on Monday, August 13, 2018.
“Wike is running a secret government or running a government as secret cult. How do you explain the fact that the state budget is a secret, nobody knows the cost of projects, projects are not advertised, (internally generated revenue) IGR is not known to anybody, monthly allocation is the best kept secret, no access to information on government activities, no due process in (the) conduct of government business? Government is a public trust,” he said
The APC chieftain in the state regretted that “there is no sense of mission in the Wike administration thus the public has lost confidence in the government and can’t wait for it to leave”.
Peterside was recently elected the Chairman of the Association of Africa Maritime Administrations (AAMA) and was being touted as the likely favourite to fly the PAC’s flag in the forthcoming 2019 governorship polls in the state.
He asserted that “in the spirit of accountability, Governor Wike owes Rivers people a duty to tell us how much he has spent on propaganda and funding PDP. It is true that the amount so spent would clear the backlog of pensioners’ gratuity and allowances owed”.
