There are strong indications that the lawmaker representing Ogba/Egbema/Ndoni constituency 1 in the Rivers State House of Assembly, Christian Ahiakwor, may not return to the house in 2019.
There were strong indications that his second term ambition stood threatened due to alleged disagreements between him and his kinsman, the state commissioner for power, Shedrack Chukwu.
Though Ahiakwor, who confirmed his second term ambition, asserts that nobody could stop him from contesting the PDP ticket during the primary, Kristina Reports’ findings reveal that already there were strategic moves allegedly been made to scuttle his second term ambition.
Both men are members of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in the state and from the Egi clan in Ogba/Egbema/Ndoni local government area (ONELGA).
Sources close to the commissioner hinted that as part of plans to ensure Ahiakwor does not emerge the PDP flagbearer for the 2019 general elections was favourably disposed to supporting another aspirant from the Nwobochi family in Igburu clan.
Unconfirmed reports reveal that this was due to Chukwu’s interest in contesting Ahoada-East/ONELGA federal constituency seat and an alleged disagreement between him and Ahiakwor over who controls the Egi Youth Federation may be among several reasons why he does not want a comeback for kinsman in the state assembly.
With this development it appears that the chances of the Egi clan to retain the ONELGA constituency I seat in the state Assembly come 2019 may be getting slimmer due to the disposition of the commissioner given that both positions cannot come from the same Egi clan.
Efforts to have Chukwu’s reaction failed as he declined comments when contacted via his mobile phone.
