Reprieve for Rumuagholu as Police Burst Robbery Syndicate, Recover Government Vehicle

Residents of Rumuagholu Community in Obio/Akpor Local Government Area of Rivers State can now enjoy some reprieve as the Nigeria Police Force (NPF), in furtherance of its renewed aggression against crime and criminals, has burst an armed robbery syndicate terrorizing the area.

The Rivers State Police Command said, in response to a distress call from residents of Rumuagholu Estate in Obio/Akpor LGA on Thursday, April 7, 2022, its operatives successfully arrested two members of the armed robbery syndicate that have been harassing and dispossessing the people of their properties.

A statement by the Acting Public Relations Officer of the Command, Grace Iringe-Koko, a Deputy Superintendent of Police (DSP) disclosed that the two suspects, Wisdom John, aged 20 years, and Anietie Stephen, aged 26 years, both males, were apprehended, while two others narrowly escaped.

Iringe-Koko further disclosed that items recovered at the scene include various laptops and phones stolen from the residents, as well as a Volkswagen Golf Car with Reg. No. AH 757 NEM, which was used for the operation by the suspects, adding that investigation was ongoing to arrest other fleeing suspects.  

The Police PRO also announced that in another successful operation, operatives of the Command arrested two suspects for receiving a stolen ash colored Honda Accord belonging to the Rivers State Government.

She stated that the vehicle, which was snatched at gunpoint by four armed men, at D/Line, Port Harcourt, on the Sunday, April 3, 2022, was recovered around Abuloma axes of Port Harcourt by the Police.

According to the Police image maker, the suspects, one Saidu Adamu, aka, Alhaji Sani, aged 30 years, and Mohammed Sani, aged 62 years, were arrested in possession of the stolen vehicle in the evening of the same day.

The Command’s statement stated that the State Commissioner of Police, Eboka Friday assured that all hands are on deck to conclude investigations on both cases, arrest other implicated suspects, and charge them to court.

He equally encouraged members of the public to come forward to claim their stolen properties, with proof of ownership where necessary.
