People Went to Work – Former Commissioner Explains Low Turnout at Wike’s Bonny Visit

A former Commissioner for Transport in Rivers State, George Tolofari said the low turnout of supporters at the ‘Thank You’ visit of Minister of Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nyesom Wike, was due to the fact that most residents went to work.

Tolofari said this on Thursday, January 8, 2026 at the Industrial Unit field, Bonny LGA, venue of the ‘scanty’ rally, affirming the enterprising spirit of the people of Bonny Kingdom, who would rather chase their endeavours than gather for rhetorics.

Was former Commissioner for Transport, George Tolofari (left) explaining to FCT Minister, Nyesom Wike (right) what the venue was scanty here?

“The crowd you are seeing here today; today is Thursday, so many persons have gone to work. So many persons are at the site.”

“The people that didn’t go to work and the people that took permission and were granted are the persons you are seeing here today. If it were on a weekend, Sunday or Sunday, you would have seen more crowd.”

The explanation became necessary as the Industrial Unit field, which is usually crowded during political events, was begging for people to fill up the gaping spaces.

Checks by Kristina Reports indicate that this situation may not be unconnected with the resentment of Bonny people towards the FCT Minister who is reportedly hellbent on ousting their kinsman, Siminalayi Fubara, from office as Governor of the State.

FCT Minister, Nyesom WIke (centre) Apparently lost in thought as to why the event recorded a low turnout.

Hours to the kick off of the event in Bonny, members of the State House of Assembly led by the Speaker, Martins Amaewhule, at an emergency sitting of the Assembly, initiated impeachment proceedings against Governor Fubara.

Kristina Reports also learnt that the abject neglect of Bonny LGA during the administration Wike as Governor may have also accounted for why the people boycotted him and his purported thank you visit.

Reacting to the development, a former Caretaker Committee Chairman of Bonny LGA, Adonye Wilcox queried “for eight years, what did he do for Bonny?”

On her part, the immediate past Chairman of Bonny LGA, Anengi Claude-Wilcox wondered why Wike was thanking people for voting the same Fubara he is allegedly fighting since he became Governor.

“He is going about thanking people for voting Fubara as Governor, the same Fubara he has been fighting since he became the governor, and is still fighting the same Fubara not to return as a governor.”

“How can he be speaking from both sides of his mouth, saying something and doing another thing. He should concentrate on his job as minister and allow Fubara to concentrate as Governor of the State.”

A social activist and blogger, Kalada Allison described the FTC Minister’s visit to Bonny and the low turnout that greeted it as “a shame”.
